Lice Facts

Lice are highly contagious.
Lice are spread from head-to-head contact, from sharing hats, combs, brushes, and even clothing and bedding.
The most common symptoms are itching and scratching at the scalp.
Lice eggs (Nits) look like yellow, tan, or brown dots before they hatch. They are glued to the shaft of hair, so they cannot be removed by brushing off.
After they are laid, lice eggs hatch within one to two weeks.

Nymphs (Baby lice) are brownish tan and become adult lice within seven days after they hatch.
Lice cannot live off human hosts for more than 24 to 48 hours.
Lice feed off human blood.
Pets can't catch or pass off lice.
Lice are not a sign of uncleanliness.
Lice can't jump or fly from person to person.
Lice don't spread diseases and are not dangerous.
